May 15-16, 2004 - Rochester, NY, USA Bonsai Society of Upstate New York Location of Event: Monroe Community Hospital (MCH) 435 E. Henrietta Rd. Rochester, NY 14620 from 10am to 5pm This is the 31st Exhibition of the Bonsai Society of Upstate New York. There will be well over 100 of the regions finest Bonsai on display. This year the exhibit will also feature Japanese Viewing Stones. Arthur Skolnick will present lectures both days and are free with admission. The sales area is large and offers fine quality items for sale. Free azalea with $4 admission, while supplies last. The famous Rochester Lilac Festival will be in full swing at Highland Park, about 3 minutes drive(10 minute walk) from our show. Admission is $4, $2 for seniors, under 12 free. May 22-23, 2004 - Washington, DC, USA The Art of Chinese Penjing Co-sponsored by U.S. National Arboretum and the National Bonsai Foundation at the U.S. National Arboretum, 3501 New York Ave. NE, Washington, DC 20002 Symposium Hours: 8:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Pricing: 2 days: $200, 1 day: $120, Student under 21: $100, Pre-symposium demo: $75 The U.S. National Arboretum and the National Bonsai Foundation present this two day symposium to provide a forum to examine the history, styles, and unique characteristics of The Art of Chinese Penjing and to focus on its rich heritage. Moderated by Dr. William Tai of the University of Maryland, this symposium of slide lectures, discussions, and demonstrations with regional and international experts will be a thought-provoking opportunity for participants to learn about the ancient origins of penjing and the singular influences that shaped this art form. Topics include the influence of Chinese gardens, the historical development of penjing, and the various styles that have evolved throughout history as well as a presentation featuring the companion penjing collections donated by Mr. Yee Sun Wu to the Montreal Botanic Garden and the U.S. National Arboretum. A dynamic new penjing style-wind-blowing water and rock penjing-will be introduced by Hu Yun Hua at a pre-symposium demonstration on Friday, May 21, from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. To provide an intimate setting for questions and answers, this presentation will be limited to 25 registrants. June 12 - 13, 2004 - Toronto, Ontario, Canada The Toronto Bonsai Society Celebrate The Toronto Bonsai Society's 40th Anniversary, At our Bonsai Show and Sale, Saturday June 12th 12pm - 5pm, and Sunday June 13th, 10pm - 5pm - Presenting an artistic display of bonsai, some over one hundred years old, grown with tender loving care for decades. - Continuous demonstrations of bonsai being created. - Sales area with trees, tools and pots.
